At the end of March Newcastle City Council, YHN, Newcastle City of Sanctuary and FoodWorks, along with a group of individuals who have come to Newcastle through the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS) came together for a lunchtime of delicious food.
The people involved in the event had the chance to cook in a professional kitchen, show their culinary skills – which were most definitely pretty fine – increase their employability and English skills, as well as their confidence. We have a couple more trail dates planned at YHN and the Civic Centre and are hopeful that there may be scope to get dishes such as these, cooked by people resettling in Newcastle, as part of the regular offer from FoodWorks carts in the future offering people the chance to gain skills, experience and ultimately employment, and offering customers delicious food – win-win!
Thanks to everyone who made it along to the event for your support, the feedback about the food was brilliant and lots of folk said that they would be very happy buying food like that in the future, can’t really ask for more than that!
