Hello and welcome to 2019!
There are quite a few things to update you on, and as the discerning among you may have noticed, it has been quite a while since the last update here in Newcastle. All that is in the past – see below.
Rosie Tapsfield has recently joined Newcastle City Council working to coordinate the City of Sanctuary. Rosie would like it to be public that it is her new year’s resolution to make sure this page is up to date; bringing you news, stories, events and other interesting titbits from the world of Newcastle City of Sanctuary, so watch this space and see how the resolution goes over the next few months – fingers crossed she’ll keep it.
Since Rosie has started her post there has been quite a bit of work going on behind the scenes in terms of City of Sanctuary here in Newcastle. This has included lots of meetings with different organisations and groups to find out what is happening in the city and introduce herself and the work to people. There have been meeting with the Universities in the city to discuss University of Sanctuary awards and what this entails, which was received positively, and we hope that we will have more information to share on this over the next little while. There has also been some work thinking about other intuitions, such as libraries and schools and how we can support them to get on board with the City of Sanctuary work.
We are keen to make sure that the City of Sanctuary here in Newcastle has lots of involvement from others; from people seeking sanctuary, from organisations working in the sector, from interested individuals and from anyone else that wants to have an input really. So, keep your eyes out for up and coming events that you may wish to get involved with and please do get in contact if there is anything that you would like to chat about, ask about, or discuss – we love it when people get in touch!
