Hello again,

As with all good new year’s resolutions it is all to easy to forget about them as January has come and gone and life is back in full swing. However, this one about keeping in touch is just too important, so with that in mind welcome to this month’s little update!

In January Newcastle City Council passed a motion calling for the right to work for asylum seekers under the Lift the Ban campaign, which is campaigning to restore the right to work for everyone waiting for more than 6 months for a decision on their asylum claim. This is a really positive step, and we are very proud that Newcastle is one of the first Council’s to publicly support the campaign and are hoping that others  will follow suit and join the Lift the Ban Coalition. For more information on this campaign see: https://www.refugee-action.org.uk/lift-the-ban/

Part of the work that has been going on here at City of Sanctuary Newcastle is thinking about how best to reach out to supporters, both groups and individuals, to try and link in what is happening here at City of Sanctuary Newcastle HQ – sounds fancier than it is I reckon – with what is happening on the ground. This is ongoing work and we are hopeful that we can have a structure in place for this before too long. In the meantime, please do sign up so that we can send you through updates, news and events.
